Portraits

What you need to know about commissioning
Picture
Many of my portraits are painted entirely from photographs - either ones the client has supplied, or photographs of the subject that I have taken myself. Arranging the commission is then a simple matter of choosing the best photograph to work from and deciding on things like medium, size, and timescales. I can help you with these choices if you are unsure, and I will always quote a price before I start work.

Portraits are typcially priced between £350 and £1,000, depending on size, complexity and the medium used. Oil paintings from live sittings cost from £1,000 upwards.

For extra reassurance, I alway gives the client the opportunity to check the painting before he or she pays for it - either as the work progresses or when it is close to completion. At this stage possible changes can be discussed, to ensure that everyone is happy with the final result.

This gentleman commissioned a painting of himself, to hang in the Railway Society where his father's portrait is also on display. It is an oil painting, completed mainly from photographs.
