I spent some time sketching at this spot, and so have a clear visual memory of it. I wanted to convey the sense of being very high above the water, and the precipitous feel of the cliffs. All the cliffs in this part of Orkney show very distinct lines and striations, which make them more interesting to look at than simply large “slabs” of rock. The water is also very clear, which gives it an almost Mediterranean look.
