I have painted most of this picture in watercolour, but overlaid it with pastel to gain more texture and depth in the foreground. It's a scene from the Lake District, and I liked the mixture of colours on the hillsides. I also wanted to capture the sense of the very distant mountains, which are barely visible at all.
